Children should be given plenty of love through hugs and kisses. They should be listened to and talked to at their eye level. Each child deserves individual attention and patience. I will make each child's experience under my care both a memorable and a positive one. I believe that children learn through play and hands-on experience. Children should be allowed to "get messy" in their play. I believe that children, when provided with a variety of age-appropriate choices, will learn through discovery, inventing and experimenting within an enriched environment. Through play there is no need to produce a specific product, no right or wrong answers. A child's ability to pretend in play is a way of enlarging his or her view of the world. It is a step toward literacy, and play often reflects the creative inner self. Children need creative environments where fun, laughter and playfulness as well as learning occupy their waking hours. Children should not be rushed through childhood but allowed to develop at their own pace. Children should have fun! After all, even the experts agree that preschool age children learn most through play. These carefree years are too short, and soon the children will be exposed to a much more structured form of learning. How then do I encourage a child's love of learning? By making learning fun! Each week a theme is presented. These themes are all based on things that interest children. During the month, many activities take place which help promote basic skills (letter & number recognition, color & shape recognition, large motor skills, small motor skills, etc.) with as many of these activities as possible centering around the month's theme. | |
