I have been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It\'s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.

My husband and I were hoping to move to Nobelton, buy a large home 3000 sqft with 1/2 - 1 acre lot. But from what I am reading that wont happen or will it ??????
I heard that slokker will have large lots & stupp will be building on 1/2 acre lots is that not true??? please advise me at linaparis74@hotmail.com
Nobelton is a beautiful place & we would hate to see it become another congested city with subdivisions where the houses are litterally on top of eachother like Maple & Brampton....come on this can't be happenning.

would be interested in seeing this report/response...the nobleton
and king city efforts to participate in determining their own futures have
been like trying to stop a bulldozer with an apple...the only thing I can
say at this point in time is it's going to be one hell of a journey to come
back and visit years from now and survey the damage...people need to
remember who the "responsible " decision makers are so that they may be
given rightful recognition on a large billboard [or such] years from
now, when all hell has broken loose environmentally...water supply will be
affected, along with localized climate change[heat sinks],as well as traffic
and accompanying pollution...can't fight the developers/builders gang...time
to move,if you can[seems like an oxymoron, doesn't it]...I knew the sewers
were coming to king over 20 years ago or more because a good friend happened
to overhear a conversation between some developers...funny thing...king
township offices[planning dept]denied this when I asked,but they wanted
badly to know where I'd heard the story...I held out for
millions[humour]...all small hamlets are in jeopardy of losing their
identities...as one large developer/builder once said,"I feel like a
farmer...one day I put in sewers, and the next day houses grow out of the
ground"...enough said...mother nature will be the final judge and she will
not suffer fools gladly...problem is,the rest of us who have common sense
will be swept away by the same rush of natural crises...

definitely a friend of the environment

To the Editor,

As many of you know, this hearing, an application by Slokker Canada for a subdivision in Nobleton, was the culmination of several months of controversy in the local community.

I became aware of the project during a local Chamber of Commerce meeting in February 2005 when I overheard a local real estate agent claim that the subdivision was a ‘done deal’. Many townspeople were upset about how little information was forthcoming from the Township about the project prior to the announcement of a public meeting in the spring to be held at the Township office. According to the news, there were so many concerned citizens at the first meeting that the venue had to be changed to a local banquet hall.

I attended the second meeting before King Council and its staff. Local citizens were allowed to make short presentations for and against. I estimated that out of about 150 people present, 2 out of three in attendance and the same proportion of presenters were against the project being allowed in its present form. I watched in consternation as Nancy Hopkinson, president of Nobleton Alert, a well-informed and organized citizens’ group opposed to the scope of the development, was virtually gagged and publicly humiliated.

As a long time Nobleton resident, I felt obligated to attend the first and last day of the OMB hearing. It appeared to me that what was taking place was first, an attempt by a very large developer with lots of clout to clearly run circles around a solid Community Plan approved by no less than 2 former Councils; and second, an attempt by this same developer and its cronies to make a joke of the only two pieces of legislation offering any hope for a lasting Greenspace above Toronto, the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act and the Greenbelt Preservation Act.

Since moving here in 1974, I admired the efforts of the Council of the Township of King- and it’s charismatic leader of so many years, Mayor Margaret Britnell- to ‘Keep King Green’. Under modest pressure to allow increased growth in the area and with the specter of an asphalted Vaughan on the horizon, Mayor Britnell oversaw the creation and maintenance of Town Plans that would allow King’s villages to grow sensibly and still maintain their spacious, small-town character.

This OMB hearing was critical to Nobleton’s and, in a sense, Toronto’s future. And now we must have grounds to appeal the injudicious decision of this one man, who acting alone comprised not a ‘municipal board’ but a ‘mockery board’, and who apparently chose to ignore all appeals to reason and compromise from local citizenry and environmentalists and allow this monstrous development to proceed.

Mr. Ellis R. Greenstein
