My father, Edward Howard, joined the Navy at the age of 16. His LST got stuck on the beach in Normandy. The Navy reported to his parents that he was missing in action. He caught some shrapnel in his arm but he did make it home to become my dad. |

My grandfather, Ralph McClanahan, served on the LST 375 in 1943 shortly after enlistment. He went on to serve on the LCI 76 in 1944 and the LCI 551 in 1944-1945. I am trying to replace all that was lost through the years and piece back together his military history. Thank you for building this site. I really enjoyed looking at the pictures. |

Donald was my Uncle, He served on an LST, He would never talk about it much. My grandfather said he was in on 7 landings. At his funeral it was said he had two purple hearts, we new of one, he said the Germans put some cannons on a cliff and shelled his ship, he did talk about that time, he said he ran into a room and didn't get the door closed fast enough and the schrapnel flew around inside. He said Sicley, My father said he was wounded at Omha beach. I would like to find out more if I could, They are all gone now, God bless them for what they did for us all. |

My name is Jerry Gilmartin. My email address is jerry.gilmartin@intel.com. I am the Curator of the USS PT658 Save the PT Boat Inc museum located in Portland Oregon. Here is the link to the website: www.savetheptboatinc.com I went to the National Archives in Washington DC last week (25Apr-02May2011) and researched some history about the PT658 and how it was transported to the West Coast in 1945. I was able to check out and review the deck logs of numerous LST’s. I have an educated guess that it was loaded on board LST375 on 24August1945, and then transited the Panama Canal and went up to Bremerton Washington. It was there on 24Sept1945 that the PT Boats were unloaded from the LST375 per the LST deck logs. Was there anyone that reads this message on board the LST375 during this time period? Aug-Sept1945? If so, I was hoping that you may remember something about the boats and also maybe you took a photograph of the PT Boats on board the LST375? If not, do you know somebody who may have been on board LST375 at that time that I could contact? I really would like to know more information than what we know right now, which is sparse. Thanks for your time and please email me if you have any information. Thanks Jerry Gilmartin Portland OR |

My father was a doctor aboard LST 375 during the D-day invasion. He passed awy in March, 2009 at the age of 94. The ship carried the Headquarters Comapny of "V" Corps of the US Army(450 men and 51 officers) to just offshore of Omaha Beach. There the were transferred to Higgins boats(LCVPs) and Rhinos for the trip to the beach. Higgins boat #5 was destroyed with crewmen Richard English, William Eubank, Kenneth Flahaven and Herbert Riebe missing in action. All four were later found and reported back aboard in Portland Harbor, Dorset, England. I recently received copies of the ship's log dated 1 June to 10 June, 1944 from the National Archives and Records Administration. www.archives.gov This is an excellent resource. |

Thank you for putting this site together and for the phone call you instigated between my brothers and your dad. My mother, husband and I are about to listen to that conversation, that my brother recorded. Seeing the photos of the ship, the men, and my dad, is wonderful. Thank you again. |
