Missing constable's body believed found

ORANGEBURG, S.C., May 21 (UPI) --

Authorities in South Carolina said Sunday they believe a body found in a shallow grave is that of a constable who disappeared after a shooting incident.

Forensic tests will be conducted to confirm the body found in rural Orangeburg County Saturday with the aid of cadaver-sniffing dogs is that of Lowcountry Constable Robert Lee Bailey, The Times and Democrat in Orangeburg, S.C., reported.

"We have tentatively concluded that this was presumably the individual we have been looking for," said Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams.

Rob Dewey, chaplain for the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, said the family members "want their father and grandfather brought home. And this looks like the resolution to that."

Bailey, 67, was last seen Monday making a traffic stop in Charleston County. A few minutes later and a few blocks down the road, gunfire was heard. He was gone but his hat, gun and a pool of blood were found in a yard and his burning cruiser found a few miles away.

One person, Asia Prioleau, 22, has been charged as an accessory after the fact. Her boyfriend, Walter Fayall, 24, is being held on federal gun charges. Two other associates have been arrested as well.
