Tutu's cancer returns

LONDON, May 21 (UPI) --

The Nobel Prize winner and anti-apartheid activist Desmond Tutu's prostate cancer has returned, a London newspaper reported Monday.

Tutu, 75, told the Times of London he is in good health and is undergoing hormone treatment for his cancer, which was first diagnosed in 1996.

"I owe a great deal to the many who sustain me with their prayers," Tutu told the Times.

The power of prayer is evident in South Africa, where he served as Archbishop of Cape Town, Tutu said.

"We would not be where we are, free and democratic, had we not been supported so magnificently by the international community. It was not just the political actions of people. I don't think there is any country that has been prayed for as much as South Africa."

Tutu said he is saddened a debate over homosexuality has led to divisions in the Anglican Church.

"What is sad to me is that we are investing so much time and energy in the subject of homosexuality at a time when the world is groaning from poverty, disease and corruption," Tutu told the Times.
