Tata to build $3.5B steel plant in Vietnam
NEW DELHI, May 21 (UPI) --
India's Tata Steel, the world's sixth-largest steelmaker, plans to build a $3.5 billion integrated steel complex in Vietnam through a joint venture. The government of the Southeast Asian nation approved Tata's joint venture with the Vietnam Steel Corp. for the project, the Press Trust of India reported Monday. Tata is regarded as the least expensive steelmaker in the world. The project calls for a 4.5 million-ton plant in the Ha Tinh province. Iron ore for the plant will come from Vietnam's Thach Khe mines. "Tata Steel has been looking into opportunities in several countries. Vietnam is a country that we are looking into seriously, as it has both raw material as well as market," a company spokesman told PTI.
