What do you guys think? Was the Greek win in Euro the best achievement from a underdog side in the history of soccer? Coming into the tournament they were 101 - 1 odds - enormous odds and they had never scored a goal. Lets not make a mistake it was a huge ask of the Greek team to win the Euro and thats what they did although in history there were other big soccer upsets. Here are some of them.
1950 World cup USA defeats England.
1988 Gold Cup Australia - Australia defeats Argentina 4 - 1 not by 1 or two golas but 3 goals! Although this was a 4 man tournamant and no Euro or World cup this was still an impressive result when most of the Australian team would of still of been part timers.
1992 Denmark wins the Eurocup afte not qualifying (Yugoslavia disqualified due to war andDenmark entered). Most of the Danish players were on vacation at the time of their callup. They were scattered over Europe in places like Spain and Portugal enjoying a break.
In my opinion Greece and Denmark would have to be the big 2 soccer upsets. Which one of the two was more of a achievement. Lets not also forget when Denmark won itthere was only 8 teams in the comp whereas when Greece won it there was 16.
Greece came from 15th possie the Danes from 9th. All comments welcome.
