I know it should be stamped on the transmission tunnel between the front seats, but the AAK I'm dealing with has had the carpet glued onto a thick layer of underseal.

Can anyone give me a more precise location please before I go to town with the hot air gun?

The number should be on the top of the tunnel 1" to 2" behind the back edge of the handbrake and U/J cover plate.

Location: Herefordshire, with an "E" not a "T".

I've finally got round to scraping the paint off the transmission tunnel. I've gone a good three inches past the cover plate and found no number. Any further suggestions?

Wrong place! It's at the front of the transmission tunnel, just behind the gearbox.

I think Martin was referring to the cover at the front with the handbrake slot in it. This also covers the front fabric UJ
