Takitimu entered service with SPS at Sydney in September 1994 after a voyage out from Hamburg via Hartlepool, Newcastle, El Ferrol, New Orleans, Panama Canal, Cristobal, Suva, Amamapare and finally Sydney.
After a few voyages which saw her calling at various ports in both the South Island and the North Island, she settled into a regular run between Auckland, Tauranga and Sydney until the end in February 1998. She was arrested at Tauranga, but was allowed to move to Auckland where she arrived on 26 March.

As from 7 November 2019, shiptracking website Fleetmon was reporting her name as Amany Queen.
