Handed over on 28 January 1953, Holmwood crossed the North Sea to London where she loaded a full cargo of cement for Haiti in the West Indies. After discharging there she went on to Trinidad and loaded a cargo of bitumen for Wellington, where she arrived on 18 April 1953.
Holmwood gave good service to her owners until she was finally laid up at Nelson just prior to Christmas 1971. Sold in October 1972 to King Line S.A., Panama and renamed King Fish. Sold again in 1984 to Pioneer Shipping Company of Male, Maldive Islands and renamed Pioneer Elite.
She didn't last long with them and arrived at Gadani Beach for demolition on 23 July 1985.
