Taiko was built to replace the Erne on the NZ coastal tanker trade and to my knowledge is the only tanker ever owned by the Union Company. Specially fitted out to be able to carry bitumen.
Distributed products from the NZ Refinery at Marsden Point to various NZ ports, with the occasional overseas voyage.
Sold overseas in 2007 and renamed Atlantia.
Arrived Alang for breaking up 7 August 2012 and beached 18 August.
