The OP should be aware that if he puts either D or EP 140 into his steering box the likelihood is that it will migrate to the garage floor. If this is the case 'groil' maybe the easiest solution, a DIY mix of 140 and grease that won't drip of a spoon!

However if he has rebuilt box with excellent seals I apologise.

There are different types of EP140.

EP140 Hypoid contains additives that's will damage the bushes in A7 back axles.

EP140 Hypress is perfectly safe to use in A7s - I have done so without issue for many years and many miles.

If you are unsure which EP140 you have then use D140 it is readily available and can be cheaper.

that's a useful nugget of info - I don't think many people (including myself) knew there was more than one type of EP140.

We tried Jeff Taylors suggestion and are very happy with it. It doesn't leak and sticks to the gear like STP. Another plus is that it is designed for steering boxes and not diffs.
