I was stationed there from 1979-84. It was my second tour in the UK. My time there was a unique experience but very enjoyable. It was a time before all the immigration changes ruined it. I returned to England again to RAF Mildenhall from 1985-89. I could see the country changing even then. Such a shame. I would like to visit again, though.

My dad Edward Buvalla was stationed at Greenham Common AFB and was in charge of the base clubs and the Manor House. We lived there for two years 1968-1970 and I went to school on the base. I use to walk across the flight line to the Manor house and base housing. I remember well how beautiful the countryside was all all the wildflowers. We would catch the double decker buses and hang out in Newbury at the roller ring too! Precious memories I\'ll never forget. I\'ve always wondered what happened to my AFB friends stationed there too!

Can\'t wait to take a look around. I study TC history so I think this will be a wonderful resource for troop carriers in WWII.

I was stationed at RAF Greenham Common from May 83 through May 86. I was part of the initial cadre. I witnessed the arrival of the first LCC and TELs on C-5s and IOC. I have pleasant memories of all my \"Animal\" brothers. Shout-out to my best man Ken-Bob, Jim Smith, Irv Hettinger and T-Bone crash master Marvin Ward. Sorry too many other names to list here. Proud to have served with all, proud that we made a positive difference. God Bless and stay safe!!!...Master Dancer

I often walk around the woodlands surrounding what was RAF Greenham Common. Very much enjoyed the photographic record posted on your website.. Happy memories of Britain being America\'s \'Island Aircraft Carrier\' and hope that World Peace will be seen in our lifetime.

I was stationed at RAF Greenham Common from 1986 - 1990 at the clinic. During one of the \"war games\", I remember riding shotgun in a cracker box when the peace women ambushed us at the front gate and hit us with a balloon that had blood and urine in it. We had to drive the cracker box to the next war games station and had to wash it all off. Was not a good day that day.

In 1983, when I was 13 y.o., I’ve been at the Greenham Common RAF base during the International Air Tattoo, with granny.
It has been a very special and unforgettable experience! I remember that day as if it was yesterday….
I feel very sad knowing that the base has been abandoned since 1992.
Now my grand mother has passed away some years ago and now I’m 50 y.o. but I will never forget that day.
Thank you!
Live long and Prosper _\\//

I was assigned to the 7551st at Greenham from 20 Apr 69 - 05 Jun 71. I lived in the old dorms on base until we were moved over to Greenham Close. I was one of three 462X0s, aircraft weapons systems, brought in as part of the tiniest maintenance unit to which I was assigned in 30 years. Our Chief Of Maintenance was Capt Gary Martin. His Maintenance Super was CMSgt Benjamin Moore. Back in those days I was a SSgt. We wound up maintaining WRM assets that were at Greenham and some that were brought in from other locations in USAFE just doing periodic inspections. I went a lot of places in 30 years of service but none sticks out in my memory like Greenham. I have the very fondest memories of my time at Greenham and the great people I met and became life long friends with there. I coached a little league team, played squadron (slow pitch) softball, ran the photo hobby shop and served as the official base photographer (because we didn\'t have a real one), went to concerts in Reading (Ginger Baker\'s AF) and London (Santana), had dinner with great friends in some of the very best restaurants in the world (The Noah\'s Ark on the back road to Oxford) and lived the dream. As I look back on it now, I think those were the very best times of my life. And, I met a wonderful girl from Kintbury who I followed to Toronto and with whom I just celebrated our 49th anniversary.
