Served as Coxswain at Gloucester Station mid to late 70’s . CG44317 was the station heavyWx boat with 41353 & 41399 and light weather MLE & SAR
During my stay at Gloucester Station the 44317 was involved in the sinking of a coastal tanker Jan 1977 & The grounding of a tanker in Salem Sound Feb of 1978 (Blizzard of 1978) . A pilot boat “Can Do” was lost during this Blizzard , and a former 44 Coxswain along with 4 other souls were lost. God Bless them all

Served as Aux at Station Chatham when 44301 was in service. I occasionally worked with engineering dept on 301. 301 was babied by deck dept and engineering. It was the station Cadillac. It was so clean you could eat off the deck. Never heard a bad word from any coxswain or crew about the 44\'s. Such a reliable vessel. Incidentally, my father and crew were rescued by a 44\' after their fishing vessel sank in 1977. Dad remembered going into the 44\'s engine room and laying down between the twin engines to stay warm.

Served at Station Coos Bay from 1986-2001. Started as a reserve SK2 and after reeding a few manuals retired as a BMC. On the 8th of October 1988 Big Wave Dave Duren signed my coxswains letter and for the next 12 years I drove 44361,44373,44399 and 44408 on weekends and when needed. Some of the best years of my life.

I was a BM3 Stationed at Willapa Bay, Neah Bay, and Quilliute River in Washington State in 1967 and 1968. I operated 44372, 44363, and 44369 during that time plus 36 footers and 40 boats. Loved my time on these boats much more than my 18 months on Cutter White Alder. Got out 1/3/69 and never returned to Washington.

Served as a crewman on 44367 at Station Chincoteague, VA. (75-76). Did not like the round bottom boat on slow patrols. But it was a work horse under stress and in bad weather.

I met the 44335, 44305 and 44311 while serving at Brookings Ore. And Gold Beach, Ore.
Got to experience the boats true abilities and skills when I experienced one rolling.
They are amazing performers.
